Stuck at a desk all day…then possibly through the evening too or slumped in front of the TV? In case you thought heading to the gym later will make up for all that sitting…cardiology researchers at UT Southwestern Medical Center have discovered that no amount of exercise can make up for it. Heck! So what they suggest is shifting positions frequently, getting up and stretch in the middle of a thought, pace while on a phone call, or even fidget. Other ways to have a healthier heart is to combat sedentary behavior by taking short walks during lunch and throughout the day, using a pedometer to track daily steps and taking the stairs instead of the lift – though most building stairs are one way fire exits, but nice idea guys. Now here’s where they get whacky – they also suggest holding ‘walking meetings’ replacing your desk chair with a fitness ball or even a treadmill desk. Yup, lets all take a large fitness ball to class! Anyhow, you heard it, get moving. Ref: ScienceDaily, 7 July 2014
